I'm back! Please forgive my absentee blogging my dear readers, but I just got on the roller coaster ride otherwise known as parent-of-high-schooler. And the other one's about to officially start Middle School next week. I'm fine, really.
A couple of months ago, you might recall I posted about a fence/gate project we were about to start. While it's not the drum roll big reveal kind of project, I thought you might like to see the before and afters...

In my first post about the fence project, I showed images of many posts in the neighborhood that we liked and wanted to copy use as inspiration. The original plan was to put a stone column on the right side of the already existing driveway gate. As we sketched it out, it felt lopsided. We couldn't put a post on the other side because of the slope, plus it would look funny to have a short column on one side and a full size on the other. So we decided to go with a pedestrian gate and stone path instead.
I thought ornamental grasses of some kind would look modern as well as be drought tolerant and deer resistant. We went with Liriope Silvery Sunproof. They will grow to be about 18" and will just cover the bottom part of the fence.
We still have landscaping to do on the other side and are debating about adding another rock wall tier, or just planting a ground cover for some color. Suggestions appreciated!
As I had said initially, we needed to do this for desperate reasons - dog and deer related. I am happy to report that we appear to be successful at both. So far. This rose bush was never able to produce a single flower because the deer would devour it down to a small stem at the first sight of a tiny bud. She has graced us with her gratiude.
As far as the dog...
Penny's days of swimming laps in the neighbors' pools and eating all of their cat food are over.
House update - we begin construction on Phase I in (dare I say, please don't let this jinx anything) 2 weeks! Lots of stuff to share with y'all in the weeks to come!
Have a great day!
